Understanding Human Nature Through Plato’s Republic

plato-statue

The Republic is Plato’s most renowned philosophical work. Among the topics he explores are the nature of justice and the merits of different forms of government.

The conception of justice and government Plato proposes however, is not based on complex legal or political theory, but a profound understanding of the human soul or psyche.

In this three-week short course, we will explore Plato’s conception of human nature and see what light it sheds on the modern world for us as individuals and the implications for politics and the wider society in these troubled times.
