General Governance and Compliance

Values, Principles and Conduct

Our core values underpin all that we do. They are:

  • Wisdom
  • Unity
  • Truth
  • Justice
  • Hospitality

These are the principles to which we adhere:

  • To make available the fine universal wisdom of the timeless Philosophical traditions to anyone who seeks it.
  • All are welcome to sample what the School has to offer through the introductory courses, and to continue further with the study and practice if they wish.
  • Students are asked not to indulge in criticism of others, but practise tolerance and respect and raise issues or concerns in a reasonable way.
  • All Tutors are also students of philosophy in the School.
  • Tutors and service teams give their time freely and receive no pay for their services. Two office staff are part-time employees and are paid.
  • Philosophy is made available at minimal cost. Course fees are used for necessary expenditure such as the purchase of furniture and equipment, maintenance of premises, administration, advertising etc.
  • No one may receive financial advantage from participation as a student at the School.
  • Neither attendance at the School nor position in it is for obtaining personal advantage.

Health and Safety:

All students of Melbourne School of Philosophy have health and safety duties to:

  • Take reasonable care of their own health and safety
  • Take reasonable care to ensure they don’t affect the health and safety of other people, for example, staff, volunteers, students or members of the public they may encounter or be assisting at the Melbourne School of Philosophy.
