Renaissance in a Pandemic
Is there a connection between a pandemic and a renaissance (the flowering of the best in humanity)?
The Florentine Renaissance indicates ‘yes’ for it occurred during a plague. Two philosophers – one ancient and one modern – also indicate ‘yes.’
We’ll consider these indicators together; and ask what they suggest to us today?

Helen Nichol first worked in psychology, as a Practice Manager, Professional Development Manager and Practitioner in couple and family work. In education she was one of the founding Governors of the Erasmus Primary school and her contribution included a role as the Ancient History Curriculum Developer and Coordinator before becoming the school’s first Well-Being Chaplain.
Recently she completed a Masters focusing on the philosophical works of the Florentine Renaissance teacher, Marsilio Ficino.
